Individual Therapy
“If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.”
- Jack Kornfield
For adults and teens (16+). We will utilize talk therapy, mindfulness, meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, and guided visualization to help you with:
-
We will work together to identify the root causes of your anxiety or stress and develop strategies to manage it.
Through mindfulness, you can learn to observe your thoughts and emotions with curiosity and compassion, which can reduce the intensity and frequency of anxious thoughts and feelings. We will work to develop coping strategies that promote relaxation, self-awareness, and emotional regulation.
Therapy also provides a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore and process your emotions, uncovering the tools and insights that will lead to a more fulfilling and joyful life.
-
With the guidance and support provided in therapy, you can develop coping strategies to reduce the intensity of your response to trauma triggers and rebuild a sense of safety and trust in yourself and others.
We will use a variety of tools such as story-telling, guided visualization, values exploration, cognitive strategies, and nervous system regulation to help you on this journey.
Through trauma reprocessing and integration, you can heal from your traumatic experiences and move forward with a renewed sense of hope and purpose.
-
Instead of punishing yourself through restricted eating, rigid workouts, and negative self-talk, let’s work together to develop an appreciation for your body and what it can do for you. It’s challenging to break this cycle, but it is possible!
In therapy, we’ll explore the underlying causes of your negative body image and develop strategies to improve your self-image and self-compassion. We will find ways to make caring for your body more joyful.
-
In our consultation call, we will explore your specific goals and needs and if I have the right experience and tools to help.
If I am not the right therapist for your goals, I will help you find someone that better meets your needs!
Sessions are 55 minutes and generally occur once per week in the beginning of our relationship and reduce in frequency as you start to feel better and meet your goals.
You can expect each session to combine traditional talk therapy with experiential tools meant to cultivate relief from anxiety, stress, and self-critical thoughts.

Ways to Pay for Individual Therapy
-
It is your responsibility to learn your benefits and pay any out-of-pocket costs [just like you would with any other healthcare provider].
You can call your insurance company or visit their website to learn about your benefits.
A good question to ask: Does my deductible, co-pay, or co-insurance apply to behavioral health [codes 90837 and 90834]?
If you want to move forward with using insurance to pay for individual therapy, be sure to upload photos of the front and back of your insurance card AND an official ID (i.e. Driver’s License) to the client portal.
If you have an HSA of FSA, you CAN use these funds to pay for individual therapy expenses, but NOT for late cancellation fees.
-
If you are covered by any other insurance besides BCBSM PPO, BCN, Priority Health, or Blue Cross Complete, you may qualify for reimbursement from your insurance company if you have Out-of-Network benefits for behavioral health.
You can call your insurance company or visit their website to learn about your benefits.
If you choose to move forward with this payment type for individual therapy, you will pay session fees at the time of service, then submit invoices to your insurance company for partial reimbursement. These invoices are provided to you by your therapist.
If you have an HSA of FSA, you can use these funds to pay for individual therapy expenses, but NOT for late cancellation fees.
-
If you have decided that you would like to move forward with therapy without using insurance, you will pay session fees at the time of service using a credit or debit card.
My goal is to be transparent about therapy fees and payment types so that you can make the best decision for YOU. Therapy is an investment in your mental health and can have a true impact on your quality of life. With that being said, I realize that not everyone can afford to pay for therapy out-of-pocket for a variety of reasons. To account for that, I work with insurance providers to reduce out-of-pocket costs to you.
I also host a Clinical Mental Health Intern from Oakland University’s Master of Arts in Counseling program. You have the option to work with Courtney at a low cost (sliding scale of $30-$60 for a 55 minute session). You can book a consultation with Courtney here.
If you decide that none of the payment options at Middle Way Wellness are suitable for you right now, I’ve listed free and low cost therapy options on the Resources Page.
